We aim to ship your bags within 24 hours. To change an order, you can contact us by email at orders@manhattanportage.com.au on the day you placed your order. Please make sure the subject line reads 'Change Order'.

We also accept Bank transfers. If you chose to pay by bank Transfers your Order will not be shipped until the funds have been received in our account.

  Shipping Costs

 

For all Australian orders, your bags will be shipped by Australian Post - Parcel Post registered. The cost of shipping is based on the total weight of the parcel and destination postcode.

All orders placed with manhattanportage.com.au ship from our distributors warehouse in Sydney Australia.

We aim to ship most in stock orders within 24 hours on weekdays. Orders placed on weekends or public holidays will begin to be processed on the next business day. If items in your order are out of stock we will notify you by email. Most Backorders will ship within 2 weeks.

Sometimes Unforeseen supply problems or unexpected demand may occasionally result in some bags being unavailable. Should there be a delay in despatching your order we will contact you immediately to advise you of the reason for the delay. You may cancel the order at any time prior to processing

Exchanges and Returns

 

 

Manhattan Portage unconditionally guarantees all products we manufacture and sell At our online store to be free from any defects of workmanship. We will happily replace or refund any defective items you wish to return.

Any non-promotional item purchased from www.manhattanportage.com.au can be returned within 30 days of shipping .

All items must be returned in the same condition they were received, unworn or unused,unaltered with the original tags on the bag and sales receipt.

Expenses for shipping the item back are paid by the customer ,unless the reason for exchange or return is due to an error by manhattanportage.com.au (e.g. wrong item/colour or defective item).

For exchanges, a new bag will be shipped out once the bag to be exchanged has been received. The cost of shipping the new bag back to you will be taken care of by us.

Items purchased from the USA online store manhattanportage.com or other retail stores cannot be exchanged or returned to the Australian online store manhattanportage.com.au.

Unfortunately we will not be able to offer returns or exchanges for International Customers.

Change of mind
If you simply wish to exchange or return an item for any reason (see limitations above), you are responsible for return shipping charges, but we will ship you a replacement item with no additional shipping charge.

For refunds, your credit card will be credited upon receipt of the unused returned product. We will refund the price of the bag, including GST, but not including shipping. Credit card returns can only be refunded onto the original card used.
If you paid by Bank transfer we will deposit the above amount into your account.

Our Mistake
If we make a mistake with your order ( wrong colour for example) or the item is defective we will take care of the return shipping and will send you a replacement item with no additional charge for the return shipping.

Address for returns
All items must be returned in the same condition they were received, unworn or unused, with the original tags on it and along with the sales receipt. Please fill out the Exchange and Refund form included in your shipment and send it back along with the items to be returned to:

Caring for your bag

 

 

We recommend hand washing with a light amount of soap and water. Please do not machine wash your bag as this will void the warranty and remove the water-repellent coating that you have inside the bag. Do not machine dry or dry clean your bag. Normal Soil may be removed with spray cleaners and/or detergent and water. Oil and grease may be treated with dry cleaning solvent.

Zipper Care

Zipper life controls the usefulness of your bag. Never force a zipper to close an over-packed bag.

Warranty Information 

 

 

Manhattan Portage warrants all of its products for life against manufacturer defects. This warranty does not cover damage caused by improper care, nor the natural breakdown of materials that occurs after extended use. (i.e., fabric abrasion, zipper wear and foam breakdown). Bags returned for warranty service will be replaced at the discretion of Portage Worldwide, Inc. Do not machine wash or machine dry as it will void all guarantees.

*NOTE: removing the label voids the warranty of your bag

Life of our bags 

 

 

Manhattan Portage bags are extremely durable as they combine the finest materials (1000D Cordura Plus by Invista, YKK zipper, Delrin buckles, etc.) and a well-made construction. We use more expensive materials so that you will keep your Manhattan Portage bag for a long time and do not have to replace it every year. This is what happens with so many brands that use cheaper materials and sell messenger bags and backpacks at around $30 or less.

Depending on how you treat your Manhattan Portage bag, you will keep it anywhere from 5 to 15 years. Some of our customers have kept their bags for over 20 years, but you will probably want to change it after a while.

  Manufacturing Philosophy

 

Manhattan Portage bags have been manufactured in USA since 1981. Our manufacturing philosophy is to carefully design and refine each new bag, then personally inspect and select all materials. MP uses the best American-made goods and the latest in hardware, such as YKK custom zippers and the highest grade of nylon available in the market today, called Cordura 1000D, from Invista.

Manhattan Portage continues to support ethical working conditions and wages.

For the past 5 years, our manufacturing costs have risen dramatically in the US. We have found that because of these rising costs it is increasingly difficult to continue to run our entire production line in America. In order to stay in business and keep our bags reasonably priced, we started to move most of our production overseas.

So yes, Manhattan Portage has started to make its products overseas. We realize this may concern some of our loyal customers who have been purchasing our products for the past 25 years, so let us explain.

We still design our entire line of bags right here in New York City. The fundamentals of Manhattan Portage are still quality and durability. We live in New York. We survive here. And we still hold our pledge to provide the best possible quality and value at reasonable price points.

Over the years, our bags have become more complex to build and continue to require extensive labor. In this age of global economy, it is unfortunately not sustainable for us to make our bags in New York any more. We have found that the manufacturing cost alone would make the retail price outrageously high.

Regardless of where the bags are manufactured, we are committed to maintaining the quality and integrity of our products by only using the highest quality materials for Manhattan Portage Bags. The yarn from our Cordura Nylon and the Wax Wear Canvas Fabric are still manufactured in America.

Our factories overseas employ teams of hardworking craftspeople who earn good living wages, just like our hard working staff in New York. We visit our Chinese, Vietnamese and Taiwanese factories on a regular basis to ensure superior quality, detailed craftsmanship and ethical working conditions.

New York is a city of many different ethnicities and cultures. Our New York staff has always been comprised of people from many different countries. Manhattan Portage is proud to represent the melting pot that is New York.
